What's the difference between eau de toilette, eau de parfum and perfume oil?
Fragrances can be a bit confusing as they come in a number of different formats! Basically the different formats come with a different strength level. The different strengths give a different intensity of scent on the skin, which in turn determines how long the fragrance will last on the skin. The Body Shop® offers a variety of fragrance strengths: Perfume Oil, Eau De Parfum (EDP), Eau De Toilette (EDT), Body Mist. These formats all have different percentage of fragrance concentration in alcohol, and due to this they have different longevity. Perfume Oil has the most concentrated form, 20% fragrance concentration in oil.Gives six to eight hours wear. Eau de Parfum (EDP) is recommended for long lasting wear, as it contains 12%-15% fragrance concentration in alcohol. Gives six to eight hours wear. Eau de Toilette (EDT) is ideal for those that may find the EDP or Perfume oil too strong, with 7%-12% fragrance concentration in alcohol.Gives four to five hours wear. Parabens are preservatives that are widely used in the cosmetics and household goods industries to prevent bacteria from growing in the products.

What causes my skin to have sleep marks?
Heads are very heavy! While awake, we support and move our heads. Whilst asleep, we become immobile and any irregularity in the surface we recline on may become “imprinted” temporarily onto the skin. What is an essence lotion?
An essence lotion is the first step after cleansing, working to nourish and prepare the skin for the next steps of your skincare routine. Do your perfumes have an expiration date?
Like most toiletries our perfumes do have an expiration date. Most of The Body Shop® products have a shelf life of three years. To double check this for a specific product, try looking on the label as it usually tells you the minimum number of months a product will remain safe for you to use once opened - it usually looks like a jar with its lid open, together with a number (e.g. 12M).

Why isn’t the honey face mask vegan?
Although using honey causes no harm to bees and is 100% is vegetarian it is not strictly vegan as it is derived from an animal product
Why does The Body Shop claim to be 100% Vegetarian but not Vegan?
We use honey or beeswax in most of our non-vegan products for both their superior cosmetic properties and because they come from our Community Trade partners. Our honey is from Ethiopia and our beeswax is from Cameroon; both are organic, wild-harvested and from sustainably-managed sources, where we have long-standing relationships with our partners. In both cases, the bee communities are carefully managed to ensure they continue to thrive. A very small number of our products also use shellac, which is a secretion of the lac insect Coccus lacca, found in the forests of Assam and Thailand; and lanolin, an oil extracted from sheep’s wool. Neither of these processes harms the animals in any way.We are now moving away from using any animal-derived products, apart from our Community Trade honey and beeswax, and we have not created any new products using lanolin or ambrettolide for some years.
What is hemp?
The key ingredient in our Hemp range is hemp seed oil. It is rich in 'Essential Fatty Acids' (EFAs) providing extreme moisturisation for even the driest skin. We know that this ingredient can sometimes be mistaken for the illegal variety of hemp, but dont worry, ours is 100% legal and sourced ethically.
How come all of the expert facial masks aren't vegan?
Our Himalayan Charcoal, British Rose and Amazonian Acai masks are 100% Vegan. Our Ethiopian Honey mask contains honey and our Chinese Ginseng and Rice mask contains Beeswax, making them vegetarian, but not vegan. However, please note they are made for your face only and not edible.

How does the Drops of Youth™ Bouncy Sleeping Mask work to make my skin look bouncier
Skin “bounce” is related to firmness, elasticity and ability to return to its original texture and shape. The firmness can be linked to the level of hydration in the skin as well as the underlying structure, typically collagen and elastin. Night time is a great time to provide moisture to the skin topically, and our memory shape texture allows the product to relax on the skin, post application. A surge of moisture is delivered when the mask is applied, and longer-term hydration is available from the moisture magnet hyaluronic acid, which is also included in the mask. To help maintain the levels of hydration, we have a blend of light oils including Community Fair Trade Babassu oil, which supplements the effect of skin lipids in moisture retention. What does SPF mean?
SPF (Sun Protection Factor) refers to a rating for the degree of protection a product provides against UVB rays. The higher the SPF number, the more protection from UVB! UVB (for burning) – are energy intense, short waves of ultraviolet light. The intensity of UVB rays vary by season, location and time of day and will usually burn the top layers of your skin. UVA (for ageing) – are less energy intense, long waves of ultraviolet light, meaning they can penetrate deeper into the skin, reaching the dermis. Unprotected exposure can lead to premature skin ageing. Unlike UVB Rays, UVA is present all year round, whatever the season, whatever the weather and can even go through windows!
